My Life and My Existence- Who am I?

13. Let’s break down any sickness with Chun Ji ki Woon
Let’s Save the world with Chun Ji Ma Um

The ultimate reason why he became a Jidoja is that he thought this Chun Ji Ki Woon and Chun Ji Ma Um saved him. He also believed that they would save society and the world and he experienced it. This might seem to be ridiculous. But, because Chun Ji Ki Woon and Chun Ji Ma Um give wisdom like to every human being for their health, joy, freedom and peace, and this wisdom, joy and health resolve inner struggles which are in people’s mind, this means it saves the world by letting people pursue a more creative, higher level of life. Chun Ji Ki Woon and Chun Ji Ma Um awaken the sense of new life in us, and we have the inner senses which we even didn’t realize before.
If we awake those senses, we can create anything that we have in our mind.
It is true that there is the higher level of sensation than the levels of sensation that the normal people have now. This dahnhak practice is for awakening the higher human senses. The final goal is to have these new dimensions of transcendence become common sense so that people can use them to create better lives. It’s the same type of shift as when a blind man opens his eyes and has a new sense of seeing.
It is an enormously different sense like the difference between a blind man and the man who has sight. The sense of seeing and the sense of not seeing is really different.
To awaken this higher level sense of consciousness is the only way to improve our quality of life.
With the level of sense most of us have at this present time, the life that is limited and can not overcome obstructions will be continued even by someone who thinks he or she has a good life. It is the state in which his or her life never changed.

Even if there is a beautiful world, a blind man cannot see anything.
Even if there is a sweet sound, a deaf person cannot hear anything.
Even if there is a fragrant scent, the person who has lost the olfactory function cannot smell anything.
Even if there is a tasty flavor, the person who has lost the function of his or her tongue cannot taste anything.
Like a person who has dull skin can’t feel any sense from his skin, if the sense we have doesn’t awake, we cannot feel it. If we cannot feel any sense, we become stupid.
Awake. Then you will be wise and everything will be clear to you.

Sentence from Il chi :
Let’s break down any sickness with Chun Ji ki Woon,
Let’s Save the world with Chun Ji Ma Um.

12. Since Then

As he opened more Dahn centers, there were several difficulties but he could solve each one and made a lot of improvement. Since the Dahn centers were opened, many people came to be Jidojas(masters) and they have been managing the centers very well. After many centers were opened by many Jidojas, he because Dahn centers’ CEO and is now president of Dahn centers. He supports Dahnhak with ideas to progress and develop various programs; he educates Jidojas, and he manages education centers.

I’ll tell you some episodes about Dahn centers opening in America in my Blog later.

11. Pioneering to America-New Frontier

He went to Philadelphia in America with Dae Sun Sa (Ilchi Lee) nim between June and December in 1991 to open Dahn centers. He stayed for 6 months and made plans to open the first center and went back to South Korea because of his visa. In 1996, he came back to America to actually open the Dahn center.

Fortunately, a business man who lived in America invited him to visit with him and helped him to begin “Open Seminar”. And he could use a space (100 sq feet wide) at the business man’s building. Six month later, around 100 members were gathered at that first Dahn Center in USA.

Because the space was too small for that amount of people, he borrowed one of the Tae Kwon Do training halls from time to time on a temporary basis. He also borrowed two other Tae Kwon Do training halls and taught classes every other day.

He did not have any English manual, and because he didn’t know English very well, he had hard time. He tried to memorize English words and simple sentences. Fortunately, many members understood him and helped him a lot.

The most important thing was because he could let people experience Chun Ji Ki Woon (Cosmic Energy) and Chun Ji Ma Um (Cosmic Mind) through their minds and bodies, things went easy. It depended on letting people have the experience. Because they experienced it, everything became clear to them. He thought that teaching people to learn to have this experience was possible wherever, whenever and whoever. Because even though they have different languages, cultures, habits and whatever cases, he could guide them to have the same experiences.

10. The New Way, The New Life- Inevitable Mission, The way of Jidoja

Byukwoon55

“How could the people live without knowing this?” He felt sad for the people. People were seen as sad to his eyes even though they had looked happy before. A sense of duty came to him to tell the people what he had experienced. He decided to let his co-workers know about this and made a group from his work. At first, people came to him to learn how to keep healthy, to do meditation, and Yoga. Gradually, a Dahn Center was opened at his work and many people could practice and experience the energy. After they realized that it was not a fitness or meditative Yoga, they were very surprised. It was difficult to say by human words, but they found, there was something deep in it.

That “Open Seminar” gave him a chance to find Dahnhak. That was the first time my Teacher held his Open Seminar which he then did for people all over South Korea.

Since then, Lee Seung Hun, Dae Sun Sa’s special training was given at a hot spring in Tae-gu and in that training, he could meet him. After the special training, at the sharing time, he shard his several experiences and offered three bows to Dae Sun Sa nim. Lee Seung Hun, Dae Sun Sa nim asked him to raise his left hand and he lift up his left hand. Dae Sun Sa nim responded to him as he raised his right hand. Even though, Dae Sun Sa nim didn’t say anything, he could feel the connection with Dae Sun Sa nim.

After this meeting, he didn’t miss any training from Ilchi Lee, Dae Sun Sa nim. He became a life time member at the First Dahn Center in Ma-San, Korea.

One year later, he was called by Dae Sun Sa nim (Ilchi Lee) and became a jidoja (a master). As a Bubsa(one of his titles as a master), Jiwonjang(head master), vice president and president in the Central Training Institute, Director of Chun Wha Won(Mago Garden in Korea) in Young-Dong, Trainer for shimsung(Opening Heart Training), Gay-hul(Opening Meridian Channel), Healing, Ki-gong, masters’ training and developer for many programs, he did everything.

  9. My Teacher-Chun Ji Ki Woon, Chun Ji Ma Um (Cosmic energy, Cosmic mind)

   [a cloud in Sedona]

After several demostrations, he saw the Dahnhak founder Seung Heun Lee (Ilchi Lee), Dae Sun Sa (at that time, he was called by Dae Sun Sa) stepping up on the stage. Then his lecture began. Dae Sun Sa, Ilchi Lee let them know what energy is and how energy influences them. He also taught them how to understand it. He said the energy is Chun Ji Ki Woon( cosmic energy). And the mind is Chun Ji Ma Um (cosmic mind). He realized that what he had felt was Chun Ji Ki Woon and Chun Ji Ma Um. It was not the physical human energy or mind. He also understood that he could control that energy through his mind. He was so happy that there were many people like him. He felt comfort that he was not the only one. And he thought anybody could be like that.  Ilchi Lee, Dae Sun Sa led them in Ji-Gam practice in which they gathered and controlled energy, lifting their hands to the height of their chest. He also led them in Dahnmu(energy dance) and vibration exercise. Dae Sun Sa let him know the answers to all his questions.

After that Seminar, he couldn’t drop his hands down while he was walking on the street because he was afraid of losing that energy which he felt from his hands and body. He kept looking only at his hands while he was getting in the bus and even winked bus driver to take his bus ticket from his own pocket. The bus driver took his ticket even though he looked at him strangely. He continued moving his hands open and close when he got home.

When it was time to go to bed, he was worried about losing the energy while he was sleeping.  Also the energy in his hands had moved to his arms and body, and it went down to his perineum and tailbone passing through his dahnjon (lower abdomen). And it went up his spine to his head. His body was moved like a loud belch forced out on purpose. The bones were moved into alignment with noises. He couldn’t feel his body weight. It seemed like he was floating on the air. He felt something weird happening; and his arms and legs were moved by energy like he was dancing. This phenomenon occurred no matter whether he was sitting, laying down, or even standing. He couldn’t sleep that night and barely slept in the dawn. After he woke up by the morning bell sound, he tried it again. He felt the same feeling that he had felt the day before. And now every movement was directed by the energy. That phenomenon  continued while he was waking up, walking on the street, washing his face, shaving his beard, eating meals, waiting for someone, even working at his job.

He was really comfortable and peaceful. There were not any struggles, wandering mind or questions. He was full of happiness and appreciation without any reason and conditions. He felt complete as he was.  He was really grateful to Ilchi Lee, Dae Sun Sa nim.

It was good luck and a blessing for humankind to see him as a physical Teacher and also Chun ji ki woon and Chun ji ma um.

8. Inevitable Meeting-Necessity of Teacher

 Tree

[ A tree from Bryce Canyon]

He could feel deep into his heart that it was not easy to do practice without any teacher or master. He had such a deep longing for a spiritual master, that his longing pierced his heart to the bone. He worried that he might be dead or crazy, and he was concerned about why he had struggles which normal people didn’t. He longed to have his own teacher. He wanted to know if his practice was going well or not. But there was no one who could give him an answer about that. His heart’s desire made him to do “100 days prayers”. But even 100 days later, he couldn’t find his teacher. With deep disappointment, he continued his practice and waited. One day when he finished his work, he saw a poster “Dahnhak Open Seminar” on his way home. He thought that might be a good chance to find his teacher and have an answer for his questions. He asked to have his day off from his work, took a bath and went to the Seminar three hours early. There was no one there except him. He did his practice while he waited. The staff came to the Seminar location and started to prepare. Finally, the Seminar began.

7. New Born-‘Hwan Gol Tal Toa’(Changing bones and cells)

antelop canyon

                                         [Antelop Canyon, Arizona]

He was introduced to changes in his mind and in his energy and physical bodies. His mind was so comfortable and peaceful. Various insights, the ability to know the future and the ability to read people came into him. One lunch time, after he ate, he sat still and gathered his mind. He could feel his body disappear and something inside him came out and went into the mountain in front of him and came out again. At the same time he experienced a certain phenomenon where the mountain came into him. It was ten minutes only but it was a spiritual phenomenon which he still can feel today. When he would lie down on his bed to sleep, he felt energy flowing in his body that made his upper body feel like ice cream that was melting in the summer. It felt like his physical body was melted. The next change was about his physical body. His skin became very soft like a baby’s and his complexion became very pink and healthy. His physical body didn’t have much grime come through it’s pores. He didn’t even need any soap for his bath because the grime came out automatically. It was the phenomenon, Hwan Gol Tal Toa (changing bones and cells). During that time, he lived in his practice always even at work. His physical body was healthy and powerful, and he was full of joy and excitement with plenty of energy. His brain was very bright and clean. The wisdom came out of his brain like a spring. He was not always happy in his practice. He had to endure a lot of hard times also. One day, his body temperature was over forty degrees centigrade (104 degrees Fahrenheit) and he felt dim like a patient who had a dangerously high fever. One day in the summer he felt, so cold he had to wear a warm coat and turn the heater on. One day his body was powerless and limp like steamed vegetables and he felt like he had the flu. It seemed like he couldn’t move his body at all. Of course, it was not easy to have both a job and his practice. But it was not impossible. If anybody had a strong will, they could do both. Although Dahnjon breathing seemed very difficult before, from this time, it went very well. It was so marvelous that he could do it without any pain. It was so easy, natural, comfortable, powerful, big and deep. He could even control it the way he intended. He realized how different the physical lungs’ breathing through the chest was from the energy-spiritual breathing through the lower abdomen. It was so different.

6. Full Scale Practice: Ji-Gam, Jo-Shik, Kum-Chok

Tao 11

[Tao Tower, Sedona Ilchi Meditation Center]

Just reading a book didn’t help him at all. He realized that he had to find out the real meaning in it first by doing real action which related to changing his being so he could feel the meaning of the book. Because he couldn’t understand the contents and real meaning of the book, there was no way for him to proceed except to memorize it. It was written in Chinese characters that were too difficult to translate. In order to try to understand the Buddhist scripture (the Ban Ya Shim Kyung) he did his best to memorize it, while walking on the street, working at his office, even while he had his resting time. Sometimes he felt that his focus came comfortably and naturally and then he felt the meaning of the words.  That made him  have a desire to know the meaning of concepts  in the Ban Ya Shim Kyung. Such as “that which has no eyes, ears, mouth, tongue, body, not even consciousness (Mu-An, Yi, Bi, Seol, Sin, Eui)? It was so hard to understand terms like as “Hwa Du”. Because it was said “there is nothing”, he tried not to respond anything as though he had no eyes or ears even though he had them.
Even though he had a nose, tongue, body, consciousness (thought, imagine, memories, etc.) he decided not to respond anything. It was hard to do it at first because of his habit that automatically responded to outer phenomenon. He made his response to outer stimuli as minimal as possible, and focused on his inner side.
Gradually, every sound was faded and he felt something inside was starting to gather toward an inner place. He continued that wandering which his mind had been doing. Since with drawing his senses, he looked into the Ban Ya Shim Kyung more actively. There was a part in the book about “no color, sound, smell, taste, touch, mind.(Mu Saek Sung Hyang Mi Chok Bub)” And he realized the connection between that concept and the concept of “no eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, consciousness (Mu Ahn Yi Bi Sul Shin Eui). There was no color without eyes, no sound without ears, no smell without nose, no taste without tongue, no touch without body. That meant there was no mind without consciousness. It was Kum-Chok practice in Dahnhak words (the practice of “withdrawing one’s senses from the outer world). It was really marvelous and exciting. It felt like he had a clue for his studying. For more actual active practice he made a specific day like ‘The day for never being angry’ and to try not to be angry whatever happened. He also made ‘The day for never being sad and to try not to be sad whatever happened. That was the beginning of releasing emotions, such as fear and hate. It was Ji-Gam practice in Dahn hak words(the practice of stopping emotions). If, for example he made a day which is the joyful day, it had to joyful all day long whatever happened. It didn’t go well at first, but he continued. Some days it worked well, but others he couldn’t endure very well. Overall, days worked well, gave him good focus and made his mind very peaceful. But it was so hard when he couldn’t catch his mind struggling. 1 year after he began to this practice, many changes had occurred in. Not only was his mind transformed, but his senses were renewed completely through many energy phenomenon. Even his physical body was changed completely. Everything had become free and peaceful. His mind was full of joy and peace. There was no reason or condition. It was just good as it was. All his prior questions, agonies, struggles and wanderings of his mind had melted away.

5. Inevitable practice – beginning practice after a long wandering

juniper6

[a Juniper Tree in Sedona Ilchi Meditation Center]

While searching for answers, he was reminded of Dahn-jon breathing (lower abdomen energy breathing)  which he had read about in a small introductory book of Buddhism. He decided to try it because he thought he could do it by himself.  It was not as easy to do as described in the book. The two-page long explanation was very simple, but it was difficult to do. It was not easy to do the breath work with a relaxed  focused mind.  He forced himself to do it and sometimes he tried to hold his breath for too long a time. Then he had a dim consciousness and felt dizzy.  Sometimes he breathed in fully and pushed out with too much power before he breathed out. Then he felt his belly was very tight and painful; and sometimes he felt like he had hernia and his anus bled. He had serious constipation or diarrhea, and headache; and he got flu-like symptoms.  He felt like he could die if he kept trying this.  So he gave this up, thinking this was not something he could do.  He felt like he could die.  So he thought of another way. “First I should control my mind. Without controlling my mind, any other things will be the same.” Thinking how he could control his mind, he read again Ban Ya Shim Kyung, the Buddhist book. He understood Ban Ya Shim Kyung as words to brighten the mind. His family believed in Buddhism so it wasn’t difficult to find that kind of book around.

4. Wandering of inside
cloud2

[2006 Powel Lake in Utah]

From then on, he began to wander in his mind. First, he became silent. It’s because he didn’t have any one to talk to.  Whoever he asked about the meaning of life, couldn’t give him the answer. The emptiest thing was the fact that there was nothing he could do about death. From then on, a lot of agony began. He took care of household affairs diligently. In his mind, questions about life, death, disease, health, why some people live a long life while others die early, why some are well off while others are poor, what life is, where emptiness, solitude and loneliness come from, became riddles without answers and significant issues in his life. He spent his school years wondering about these things and graduated.  After finishing school and working for his company, these agonies and questions still bothered him and he could not focus on other things. He played tennis very hard to stop thinking about these things. He played tennis all day long, came home tired, took a shower, and fell asleep right away. To change this life he went to church. The minister’s preaching was comforting but did not provide anything he could actualize in his daily life.   He thought he was not ready to meet God. He went to a temple. The monk’s teaching was also right and good but he felt he couldn’t do what the monk said. He thought only special people could be ministers or monks. He wondered what he could do by himself.
